July

July has been such a busy month so far!  Raegan has been in Texas for most of the month and we have been keeping busy playing in the sprinklers and with friends.

We celebrated our great nation’s birthday with a fabulous block party arranged by one of our neighbors.   The street was blocked off and there were fun games, slip n’slides and a bounce house for the kids.  Plenty of food, fireworks and most importantly, friends and family!  Of course, Raegan was gone for this event too so we missed him but other than that it couldn’t have been a better 4th of July!  I am grateful to live in this country with the freedoms we have and am grateful to those who sacrifice to insure we keep our freedoms!

July of last year there was a storm that flooded several of the homes on our street but we were out of town for that one.  Yesterday we received a huge rainstorm that dropped tons and tons of water. At one point we looked outside and our backyard was almost a swimming pool.  The water was running under the fence on the west side but had no outlet on the east.  Our garden was almost completely under water and the window well was starting to pool with water. Luckily we caught it in time and was able to route the incoming water away.  We then spent the next 2 hours digging trenches in other people’s yards.  It reminded me a lot of my childhood when I played in the mud.  I forgot how good cool mud felt in between the toes!  The thing that amazed me the most was the sheer number of people that were out helping.  People were driving around looking for others that needed help.  I loved seeing everyone help their neighbors out.  It may sound a little corny but it warms my heart to see people working together.

  1. Good times. I only wish I could have been home for the 4th of July. Digging in the mud was fun though. I am just glad our house was spared water getting in the basement.

    Love the post.
